Agata Bisikiewicz

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

I’m a Nomad. To me, the transformation that happens within is the best evidence of why travel is important. Recent studies of chimpanzees in Uganda showed that those who travelled farther and farther each day in search of food, were much more resourceful and intelligent than the ones that didn’t. So yes, travel does make you smarter, and here are other reasons why I think travel is important and why it has been a huge part of my life:

Travel makes you stronger

Travelling gets you out of your comfort zone and puts you in situations you’ve never encountered before. This builds resilience and strength that you never knew you had.

It broadens your horizons

Travelling offers the unbeatable experience to learn about other cultures and traditions. This not only brings a different perspective on life but also teaches you to be open-minded and to respect and appreciate other people and their points of view.

It helps you learn about yourself

When travelling, take the opportunity to create your own journey, step away from the daily life, focus on yourself and follow your instincts to new discoveries.

Builds friendships for life

Travelling builds curiosity about life and other places and people. Similar experiences bring people together and sharing them builds the strongest bonds.

Grows your creativity

Immersing yourself in new experiences, tastes, smells, sights, and languages sparks different parts of your brain and promotes new connections. It helps you to think outside the box and see how one thing can mean so many others.

Jack Kerouac said it simple and best:

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”
